Wasps and Hornets regularly gain a bad reputation however, they are essential to the healthy functioning of our ecosystem. Not only do they control the number of pests, but they are also recognised as valuable pollinators.
These handmade Wasp and Hornet brooch pins sit amongst a branch of Willow. Being one of the first plants to produce nectar in early spring, Willow is a very valuable food source and in return wasps and hornets pollinate it and prey on smaller insects to reduce plant damage. The Hornet and Wasp brooch pins can be removed from their ‘habitat’ to be worn or simply viewed within their ‘habitat’ as a way to reconnect with nature.
With sustainable design in mind, the Wasp and Hornet brooch pins are hand formed (not cast), to reduce the amount of unnecessary metal, whilst keeping carbon emissions at a minimum. Each strip of gold is individually cut and fused to the silver through an ancient Korean technique known as ‘Keum-boo’. The Willow branch has been constructed with sterling silver and vibrant vitreous enamel.
The dome bases have been hand lathed from reclaimed Sapele wood.

Silver and gold pieces can be washed gently in warm soapy water, do not scrub the piece as it will affect the matt finish.
Dry the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Enamelled pieces can be washed with warm soapy water if they become discoloured.
Vitreous enamel is glass and although it is hardwearing, care should be taken not to apply force or scratch the surface.
